Updates/Blogs by Kana or Myself

February 21, 2008 - I'm currently working on my fourth novel, and at the same time plan to revise Six Faces within the next few months to re-release it through Vanilla Heart Publishing or another venue. At times I become literally disgusted reading it because my writing has improved drastically since I penned it back in 2002. Oddly enough, I've heard a lot of positive feedback from readers. Looking over it myself, I'm not 100 percent sure how anyone besides people with guns to their heads could get through the first few chapters. Yet, one older woman finished it in two days, and the majority of folks I've heard back from - teenagers and mature adults - typically wrap it up within a week.

I ran into one of my elementary school teachers late last year and let her borrow a copy. She told me she'd been up late some nights reading way past her bedtime, lol. Fortunately, she enjoyed it immensely, although a few scenes were a little too graphic for her tastes. Like some, she was disappointed with how the romantic storyline turned out, which I was personally glad to hear. I wrote a couple of twists into it to make it more realistic than your typical romance plot, and as heartbreaking as it is heartwarming (like most serious relationships at times). I've always felt that overcoming hardships creates stronger relationships so that will be a perpetual subplot throughout my stories. I pulled it off well in Six Faces, and I must say, despite my disdain for some of the writing in it, it's an excellent story with solid characters. I can't wait to see it for myself and share it with the world once I've revised it.

In the meantime, things are moving ahead with Yearly Harvest. The editing process starts in April. I'm not looking forward to it because everyone says it's going to be painful, but Michelle Devon is one of the best and I know working with her will help me out tremendously. The release date is still scheduled for June and of course I'm looking forward to then as well. Yearly Harvest is a beautifully dark fairytale in a realistic setting with characters that really drive the story. I enjoyed writing it, immensely due to Amy and Jin's interaction. At the same time, it was a difficult time period in my life because I experienced genuine hauntings that helped me to better express the fear in my fiction. The end result is a great story that I'm sure many will enjoy.

After "Lights Out" (my current project), and the revised version of "Six Faces", I plan to edit "Six Faces 2 The Mark" - the best overall book I've written (besides, perhaps, Yearly Harvest). I just need to touch up some story details before I begin submitting it, and shortly afterwards I'll begin another sequel (not to Six Faces, though, I'm finished with that) and also a fresh book series. Lately I've been getting a lot of great ideas from my wife, who is attending Nursing School and recently finished working with Psych patients so... naturally she has all sorts of interesting stories to bring me, lol.

That's it for now - Ryan
